Water Service Line Inspection Program
What's Happening?
To comply with new Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requirements, the City Water Department, in partnership with Bellemore, is conducting inspections to identify the material of water service lines throughout the city.
As part of this work, crews will be performing "potholing," which involves either carefully digging or using hydro-excavation near the curb stop to determine and document the material of both the city-owned and homeowner-owned portions of the water service line.
If you previously received a letter indicating that part or all of your water service line material is unknown, you may see crews working near your property.
What You Need to Do
No action is required from most residents at this time. City crews will perform the work needed to identify the service line material.
What to Expect
For service lines located in yards, excavated areas will be backfilled with sand and loam and then seeded.
For service lines located in driveways, excavated areas will be backfilled with gravel and restored to a level surface. Paving will be completed at a later date after the material has had time to properly compact and settle.
